Aftermarket Steering Wheel

5 posts in this topic

Hello All,  I have a 2001 Mercury Sable and really want to change the steering wheel out. Not sure which grant steering wheel kit will fit because apparently changing to an aftermarket steering wheel with no air bag is frowned upon. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

I think most Fords used the same steering shaft. At least, they all look the same. So if it will fit a 1980's Taurus, I'd imagine it'd fit a 2001. I never removed the steering wheel in my 02 Sable. However, I will suggest, if you remove it and get into an accident, some insurance companies might penalize you for removing safety equipment. And of course, I see you are in NC - that would most likely fail the state inspection no?

I can always switch it back at inspection time.

Sometimes it can be impossible to switch back after an accident though.
