Ya the red interiors of that time are more of a red wine color. Camera overexposed, over brightened. Wait for Brian's pictures, they will be worth it.

And Brian, if that dash ain't cracked yet, and if that car is seeing sunlight, get a dashmat asap and a sunshade. I have only seen 1 early G1 Sable red interior before at a junkyard...hard to find replacement. $1000 to have a dash like that revinyled by a company in California :$$$:

Oh, I already have a foil windshield shade to use in this car. And it will also spend time parked in the garage. Yes, the night time shots were with flash, which changes the live appearance of that interior. Honestly, with my work schedule and the sunset times now, it probably won't be until Sunday or Monday that I can actually take some decent daylight interior photos.

I want to see this Sable get Brian-ised, not just a restoration even though it's awesome as is now.

I do too. ;) First step is to get it 100% legal... the car is insured as of this morning (about $27/month to add it to my policy for the Taurus), and I'm gonna try to head to the DMV office and take care of the title/registration by Thursday or Friday morning.

A nice wallet for the owners manual. I don't think Ford started to include a nice wallet for the owners manual until 1989. You can find them embossed with "TAURUS" at the junkyard sometimes. Haven't found one for a Sable yet. Those buttons apparently are known to snap if you don't push on the "nipple" of the button.

Hey, could one of you guys on staff move this whole thread on over to Project Logs? I'm just gonna go ahead and keep things going here as my build-up thread for the Sable.

Mmm, niiiiice. :)

My only complaint is the interior color. Way to bright for me.

I had '87 Sable LS with the digital and all, white with red interior. It was really nice in person, the pics do not show it as it looks.

Mine was "monochrome white" all white including white basket alloys.

Really a classy look at the time.

It's almost "cute" how excited you are about this, HAH!

P.S. that thing has the fanciest dash until 2004.

What is the difference on the new vulcan vs old vulcan? Besides distributor. I don't really know anything else.

I'm just a regular gearhead who likes shiny things. :P

I had a few minutes this morning to take a bunch of daylight photos (interior and exterior); will upload and post them after work tonight. ;)

My sable has one, but it's not as nice as that one, I'm guessing it's just like the ones the rest of the taruses and sables came with. It's a nice neopreen zipper pouch.

My sable also came with this kit in the trunk that has gloves, a mini maglight, roadside assistance information, a first aid kit, and I keep a few screwdrivers and a knife in it as well.

First few years they were simple valve lifters. At some date the added roller lifters and upped the HP and torque. I do not know when the made that change.

Personally I prefer the Gen2 DigiDash, it's 100% digital. Whereas the Gen1 has the analog needles for gas/temp. But DigiDash is a DigiDash, and those are attractive in general ;)

IIRC, I snagged that red owner's manual portfolio from a Gen 2 Sable last summer. It was amazingly clean so I've been using it as a small zippered tool case for DIN keys, screwdrivers, etc. I love how it just so happens to match this car.

As soon as we can figure out why those temp/fuel pointer gauges don't work, the Gen 1 digital dash will be my favorite... :P

We gotta get EATC up in that b***h too. Gotta make it a loaded Sable LS. Or would it be SATC... Since it has the manual knob for the fan... Whichever, f**k it, who cares. Let's get it in!

You don't want to do ATC in a Gen 1/2. Changing the blend door actuator...out comes the dash.

No thanks. Plus you have to find a digi dash wood trim from an 86-87 that had EATC.

I can hear the 80's porno music playing from the stereo as you cruise the city next summer. :ky:

I have one thing to say about that ride.....It sure is red. LOL With your eye for detail I know that you will bring that beauty back to full glory. Let me know if your looking for anything special, we still have alot gen1's in the pull a part lots around here.

Previous collision damage? It looks very good. Reminds me of my old 90 GL same red with gray and red interior.

^ Looks like it got smacked or it smacked something passenger front corner? Add a new Motorcraft radiator cap to the list. That thing is original, probably not holding the 16 lbs of pressure it should anymore. How did you like driving the first iteration of the Vulcan compared to your 2005 Vulcan?
