Yes you can. If the choice is a Tec or a Vulcan, identically maintained, the choice should always be Tec. ;)

Enjoy replacing your alternator!

The joy is, I can keep basic hand tools in my Station Wagon, my ex-Taurus SEX, or my Thunderbird, and if my battery light comes on, I can drive to any parts store, and swap the alternator on the road.

Duratecs? LOL!

Alternators die, that's what they like to do. And the alternator is one of the most important components of the car.

Also, Vulcan can take neglect and abuse and ask for more. Especially a Distributor powered Vulcan. Gimme Vulcan any day of the week :)

Vulcan is quite possibly one of the best Ford engines.

The only real problem with the vulcan is it's size. Imagine if Ford had designed the vulcan in a 3.8L packaging, watch out duratec. I guess the Essex already filled those shoes and ford needed a small efficient V6 for small and midsized cars.

Ford recommends removing the axle and suspension components to remove the alternator on the Escape. Come on guys, why does it have to be so difficult.

My SHO takes 5 minutes to change alternators...including going to the trunk to disconnect the Group 31 battery.

I never raced to change any of mine, but I am sure I could do it quickly enough. Whereas Duratec guys are gonna have to dig it out :P
