Met Double-Negative Today

Recommended Posts

Met with Jay144 today and both of us rode up to Knoxville. We met up with double-negative at Pull A Part, got to pick up my Gen 1 rear bumper which was in great shape. Thanks again !!!

Gota' say, we received the royal treatment to say the least. We were loaned the yard atv/apv to get around the yard while we checked out the cars. Even received some bottled water too. Grabbed a few items while I was there.

The hospitality was excellent and much appreciated! I also have to say that double-negative is pretty awesome to hang out with. He is a busy guy, but he took time out of his workday to come hang out with us for a bit and shoot the breeze for awhile.

Again, thanks for having us up there today d-n! Hopefully I can make it up with the wagon someday with all 4 gears and TC lockup

Yes, D-N, thank you very much! A great day overall! Your hospitality was above and beyond the call of duty!

Your wagon looks even better ''live and in color"!!

I am OK with our local having Half Price Sat from time to time, and make it on a SUNNY DAY.

And they have enough extra help so I could get in and out with no delay.

The downside to this operation:

Ford is on the far side along the boundry fence.

GM is right out the office door.

He just runs the one yard, Chart...not the whole company!!

I must say that the Ford section wasn't too far away from the entrance, compared to some other yards. Very, very clean, too. Makes LKQ look like a freakin' pig sty...wait, that's insulting the pigs.

The yards have to put the true junk at the front of the yard (GM)...gota walk to get to the good stuff (Ford). Or use the yard cart! I'll upload some pix of the trip tomorrow.

Oh yea, we saw a silver 95 Sable LTS at the yard and an 87 MT-5 blue sedan. Two rare cars, both for the most part complete.

And what I think was an original 40K mile 93 Taurus GL. Seats and belts all looked new.

There was also a 1960 Edsel Ranger that was surprisingly intact..windows, body, chrome trim, all in good shape.

A 1962 Lincoln Continental, 1975 Maverick 4 door, 1967 Galaxie 500, 1954 Cadillac, 1966 Dodge Tradesman 100 van, 1985(?) Merkur (pronounced ''mare coor"---that's a German Ford for those of you who might not know),

1960 F100--in fact, several F100s from the '60s....I was surprised at the amount of vintage tin, and how relatively intact they were.

Holy crap! That Ranger is perfect! (for me, anyway) Just fill up the tires, and hit the road.

I need to take a pic of the LTS, that one even blew me away when Jay144 and Bull Geek where at my yard.

The Edsel is missing the drive train, front seat, and most of the instrumentation out of the dash...the heater controls are still there, though.

Seriously, though, it would make for an excellent restoration project. The body is very sound, and all the glass except one window is intact.

The trailer ball bolted to the front bumper would have to go, though.

The '67 Galaxie has all the parts in it...I believe it's a 289 engine, although D-N thinks it's a 390. Even has the AM radio.

You mention a 54 Cadillac.....Would you happen to know if it's a coupe or a sedan? I own a 54 Cadillac and need a few parts to finish my restoration....and Knoxville isn't too far to make a trip to find what I need. Thanks!

Jeff

I think it was a 4 door...Double Negative is the one to say for sure...he's the manager of the yard, and knows what's what.

I was hoping there was someone out there that might be looking for some of these cars. It's my understanding (and I hope I'm wrong) that they go to the crusher after 3 months.

Hell, if I had it, the original motor wouldn't have stayed in it anyway

D-N taught me a good trick with bad hood struts at the yard. Give a good solid tug on one of them and the hood will hold up no problem, because the hood strut is now bent :) Better than going to nearby Escorts and ripping off their hood props.

You know, Knoxville isn't that far...maybe we could get a Knoxville TN area meet, followed up by a trip down the dragon?

If you like to get your own pre-used parts from a yard, mine is the best! :) The Dragon sounds fun.
