What Have You Done To Your Other Vehicle Lately?

Recommended Posts

Those Malibus are some of the most awful pieces of royal dog s**t I have ever seen from GM. Such a worthless turd without even an ounce of creativity to it. Good riddance that they tend to be expensive to maintain, the fewer on the road, the better.

One of my buddies has a higher end 02 I believe with the 3100 and boy he beat the piss out of that thing, it had rod knock so bad it sounded like a diesel. It was a nice little sleeper though the 3100 is a fairly powerful motor in that platform. He handed it off to his brother and in fact i believe it got rear ended and they decided not to fix it, so its a real beater now.

Got the Crown Vic waxed. I have to change the trans fluid. It is positively disgusting looking. It shifts fine, but still.....

Went over the car pretty thoroughly..for being 18 years old, it's in better shape than Devin...

Got the headlights all cleaned up...they look brand new.

The gasket on the rear differential needs to be replaced..got one today, will change that tomorrow.

The driver's door speaker doesn't work.

The front passenger seat won't move forward...something is block the left side. I'll be taking the seat out to investigate.

Needs some R134a added...the a/c is cool, but not frigid. Need that with these 90+ degree days we are having...Sean and Devin, you thought it was hot when you were here....you'd hate it now even more.

Started detailing the engine bay...which is pretty clean to start with. I'm convinced that the car has not been used much at all in the past couple of years. Notice how everything is nice and easy to get at...plugs, PCV, coil packs, etc. I love it!

I've also started the installation of the satellite radio.

013.jpg

I haven't popped the rear seat out yet...it would be nice to find valuables under it rather than the usual trash...but, as I mentioned earlier, I don't think the back seat was sat in much at all.

One thing...I have water marks on all the windows that won't come out. I've tried CLR, but to no avail. Anyone have suggestions???

That sucks. My school's Driver Ed. fleet was made up of about four Taurus sedans (All with 'Tecs blush.gif) back in '99.

Now they have all Chevrolet Impalas :P

But when I was in Driver's Ed, we had FFV Vulcans... Apparently that's all according to our teacher. You sure you didn't confuse the leaf badge for a DOHC Badge? :P

I've also started the installation of the satellite radio.

Nice. Like the station ;)

Ninety nine percent of the time I have Howard on. It's been that way since I first got my subscription in Dec. 2005. That's the original radio I bought in 2005. I switch it between the Caravan and now the Vic. When I ordered my Edge, I got the satellite radio built in from the factory.

I started listening to Howard in 1981 when he came to DC101 in Washington. When he left for NBC in NY, I was devastated..,..but, by the mid '80s, he was simulcasting through WJFK in Arlington, VA.

I am a super fan!! I even met Howard and Robin when they were in D.C.

Here is a picture of my digital dash, taken at 10:00PM tonight. Note the temperature......

This is the first time I have not had analog gauges. So far, I like it!!

DAMN! Digi cluster! Very nice!

Sadly, I started listening to Stern not too long ago. Got a lifetime Sirius radio when I worked at Circuit City during our foreclosure (Least, it hasn't deactivated yet...) I got bored of the regular radio, and figured I'd see what all the commotion was about with Howard Stern. I hate talk radio, but at least he's interesting. Now I do have a radio I pay for, so I can record his show on my computer with SXrecorder, then listen to it on my iPhone at work. Luckily for me, they do replays of older shows.

The water marks are etched into the glass. The minerals in the water will do that if the car gets wet and sits in the sun. The only way to get it out is to Polish the glass with a proper polish or even compound if it's bad enough to get the marks out. You'll have to use a high speed orbital or random orbital with the product to help level the surface and remove the marks. Just like you would when removing marks in the clearcoat on a car.

Love that digital dash, very cool!

Got the pumpkin all taken care of...the good news was that the gear oil had been changed before...the bad was that whoever did it did not use a gasket...just RTV. That's why it was leaking. All properly taken care of now.

Before....

Is that C Vic got a Limited Slip or is it open?

Love the Digital cluster, my dad's 95 windstar had the digital cluster, with the full tach unlike your car. The trip computer then had a menu inside the tach which you could navigate through. Here's a pic of it rolling over 200k

I know its a picture of a picture but this was back a number of years, don' t have the file

It's a limited slip. The car is fully optioned.

That Mother's Aluminum Polish works great, doesn't it?

Very! The stuff on the left side looks like Puffed Wheat with dried milk. I got most of it cleaned up, but will have to go back to get the grunge out.

Have you listened to Howard today?? I sure miss Artie being on. It's great to hear him again.

I didn't. I recorded the show, but I do know it was a history/go back show.

You'll probably need to take everything out to heavily clean it. Make it pretty again. :)

Finally set time aside to clean the explorers engine bay for the first time since I bought it end of last summer. It was pretty bad, sand kept coming from everywhere, not to mention all the dirt, grease, and mouse feces from previous owner neglect. You know they are using too much sand on the roads in winter when it gets in all the little holes on the intake manifold of your car. Didn't have a camera with me, but its good and clean now.

I thought for sure the picky 4.0 would have trouble starting after I ran all the water over it but she fired right up no problem.

The Jeep got new Bilstein rear shocks today(though I bought them a year or so ago). No pics-too lazy to get the camera today. The originals were badly rusted. I'm impressed with the improved stability over road irregularities, but the ride is still smooth. B)

I have found as I get older, I procrastinate more and more. Then, when I finally do whatever, I think "Why did I wait so long?"

I started detailing under the hood of the Vic. As I mentioned before, it's not in too bad shape for an 18 year old car. I'm using Turtle Wax Ice on all the black parts, of which there are plenty.

Need to get the chrome polish out...the fuel rails have a little rust on them. Can't have that detracting from the rest of the engine.

Pics will follow later. I have a yearly home owners association meeting/cookout to attend at 3:30PM EDST.

The engine bay looks better than the pictures show, but have a look....keep in mind this is a work in progress. It will probably take a few weeks before it's where I want it to be.

001-2.jpg

002-1.jpg

I'm even waxing the paint....

005-2.jpg

If I were to sell this today, I wouldn't take under $6000 for it...but, I plan on keeping this a long time!
