Following in the footsteps of @TaurusKev I handed in my resignation letter - last day is September 8th at the current job!

Very excited, my new commute is 5 miles round trip!

Congrats!!!! My boss isn't too happy, as we are going to be 3 people short with an already understaffed IT department. My commute is now from 30 minutes to an hour for school. Quite frankly, not my problem. Had the company taken better care of me, and offered better incentives to stay, I wouldn't have thought about leaving IT, but when you got someone who can fix virtually any issue, and pay em as much as the guy who can't even use a Windows Registry or do simple hardware diagnostics... Means I was doing double duty...

Thankfully, with me commuting and having my wife's insurance, my tuition isn't terrible. By the end of school, my student loans will be about the cost of a brand new base model Ford Taurus SE. Not terrible thankfully. Hopefully I am able to locate a good part time gig, or go back to doing side IT setup for businesses.

I understand! I was over the infrastructure for 3 sites, and then the global Citrix environment, and then they threw the design and implementation of a new production machine on top of my responsibilities. I was working 60+ hour weeks, commuting 94 miles a day and when I asked for some help they flat out told me no.

I'm going to work for a MSP, and I'm very excited about it!

Early morning shoot out next to busland yesterday. I couldn't get in the back gate to the shop so had to go around. Got on the 6 pm crime news video. My one second of fame. :P

Don't let that nice office building fool you. The neighborhood is a real crime  pit. :quickdraw:

I bought a table for my car. Greatest purchase ever.

Pk35ppz.jpg

Goes on the bottom of the steering wheel and it'll support a heavy laptop. Also, for those who remember the Buick, it no longer smells inside. Smells like a normal leather car. And I've been too busy to pull the interior and do a full detail on the interior. Think it just needed some good airing out. I generally leave the windows cracked in the parking garage too for extra airing out.

Got my new hip replacement last week and am doing well. Can't wait  to ditch the old lady walker, and move on to just a cane.  Don't know yet when I can drive again.

Poor Third Bull is just sitting out there in the parking lot all sad and lonely.

My wife wanted a Kia Soul for 7 years now, her 2000 Sonata just won't die at 150k miles (V6 2.5L). So we got a 2011 Soul with 55k miles, 2.0L 4 cylinder engine, no warranty, hoping for the best. KBB price.

Changing the spark plugs I found rusty looking deposits and corrosion in the 2nd plug well, and only that one. Aha, that's why the coolant level was low. Cracked head, blown intake gasket? Who knows?

I guess I deserve that for caving in to buy a 4 banger...

Drove a Transit 250 today!

Hated it.

There are some features I love about this thing. 1. Adjustable locking armrests. 2. Locking the rear doors open so when on a hill they don't swing back to hit you in the back when loading/unloading. That's really it.

Why don't I like it? Well, this isn't my van, so the radio presets aren't mine. So, I had to use those Tune buttons, way on the otherside, which only advance 1 set (So if 90.1, pressing Tune+ goes to 90.3) Have to hold for over 10 seconds to get it to fast skip. There is also direct tune, where you can punch in the station. Seems like a great idea when on the highway. I have a shitty JVC unit in my Buick, and the tune feature skips between detected radio stations with a tap of the button. Would be nice in such a modern vehicle that pressing it would lock on to each station + or - of where I am going. If it does that, I guess I would need to play in the menu, which is annoying.

The location of that tiny LCD for the backup cam - it is so far away, so either I have to try and over in the middle to see it, or just rely on the mirrors like the old fashion way.

The transmission. It takes days to shift. "Oh, time to go to 2nd." And you feel every shift it does.

Finally, it is loud, very loud in there. I think even louder than my E250 was. Even at 40 Mph, the windnoise was loud. Sad that Ford killed a better van for this thing. Much prefer the E Series to the Transits. :(

It was also the Non-EcoBoost - but still pretty peppy for an empty van.

I bet it has the Powershift transmission. Piece of junk design. It's two 3 speed manuals in the same box (hence why it is a "dual clutch") all controlled by the computer. Known for serious issues in the Focus (2012+) and the Fiesta (2011+.) That's why it is lethargic and rough.

[rant] Backup cameras are stupid imo. I wish car manufacturers would quit adding this pointless tech to cars. The mirrors exist for a reason. We are losing our situational awareness as people since we keep relying on computers to pay attention for us. [/rant]

Not sure, it is RWD and I know the PowerShit is a FWD application. So maybe a variant of it? The PowerShit is why I may never buy a new Ford again - Simply for all the issues my Focus had with it, and different dealerships just sitting around with a thumb up their ass. Even when it was leaking oil it was regarded as normal.

The van did have some redeeming qualities, but overall, if I was in the market, I would take an Express over it in a heartbeat for the comfort since living in a van, comfort is king to me. And manufacturers are adding tech because people don't want to learn to properly drive. Really whatever happened to keeping things simple? Per Fake News, it will be mandatory in 2018 - http://money.cnn.com/2014/03/31/autos/rear-facing-cameras/index.html

Also if we got into the habit of backing into parking spaces, it is safer than backing out of parking spaces as when you are pulling in you are aware of the surroundings prior to engaging reverse. But - Cars today are something I wouldn't want to buy. GM comes close to something I liked, but really a simple, but comfortable car is almost non-existent these days. I need to buy up all the panther and B Bodies when I become rich

All transits have the 6R80 transmission, its basically an F150 underneath the van skin and unibody. Very surprising it shifted poorly, the 6R80 is a great unit, shifts quick and firm, its a strong transmission. The programming must be a lot different for the Transit than the F150. The 6R80 was pretty much Ford's bread and butter in terms of RWD transmissions (excluding the HD units) up to this year with the intro of the 10R80. That new 10 speed will be behind all of the truck engines except the new 3.3L which will retain the 6R80.

I don't know why everyone rags on the powershift so much, I mean clearly it has documented issues but I thought it shifted just fine, and I logged quite a few miles behind the wheel of a 2013 Focus, enough that I would have noticed a crappy shifting transmission. If memory serves me right I believe the owner of that car told me she had it go in under recall to be replaced or something. The only part I hated was pulling the car forward into a garage, that car did not creep forward like a normal automatic transmission. Pulling that car forward into a garage I felt so scared I was going to hit something. Pulling that little car into a garage was worse than pulling the giant F150 in which is like trying to thread a needle.

Could have been tuned differently for the Transits. As far as the Focus, IIRC it was shitty clutch packs Ford put in, which caused all sorts of issues. Before the recall was issued, I had non stop issues with my Focus, and just had enough and got rid of it. Wasn't worth the headache. I did enjoy that car, minus the clutch packs. It was the original batch as well.

I would rather have a manual, or a conventional automatic transmission. I also hated when I needed to creep slowly, it was all or nothing with that thing. Always had to have a foot over the brake while 1 on the gas. I would consider another Focus in stick. (Focus ST? :D )

Couldn't agree with you more !  I hate that cars can park themselves, warn you when you lane drift,  tell you when to brake etc.  Isn't that what the driver is responsible for doing ?  Maybe it's compensation for people who spend their drive time texting, setting GPS etc. instead of driving !
