Also going through all my papers, I've found almost 7,000 dollars in receipts from the Ford dealer since we took ownership of Rex...

all in all, a total $9,000 for a car that served for almost 10 years, isn't bad at all!

No, not bad at all. I’m fairly certain that NOSHO's purchase/ownership costs totalled up to about triple that much over 7 years. :hmm:

Although from having 16" wheels on for a couple years, and having switched odometers for a while, I think the mileage is actually between 195-200,000. Wish I had it accurate, so I could hit 200 :(

Wow, I don't know Sean.  I would have probably sent the thing to the crusher by now.  If the rear struts suffer a failure when your clipping along at 70mph on the highway the chance of loosing control and killing yourself or others would be too high for me.  The structural integrity of the car is most likely compromised as well and not near as safe as it should be.

I remember several years ago in green bay, would have been my high school years when a drunk driver ran a red light and T-boned an older Buick.  It was a 1st car for a teenager so it was nearing the end of its life, both teenage girls in the car died, according to the reports from multiple people the fact that the car was structurally comprised made the crash even worse.  The drunk women driving a new Porsche of course was unscathed.

There just comes a point in a cars life that rust will make it unsafe to drive.

It sucks, but Thub is right. Cars, in the end, should protect and serve drivers. If they can't do one or the other then they shouldn't be driven :/

The oil light started turning on and off today. It would turn on for a little bit then turn off for a while... mostly it was off.

Checked the oil. .... well. ... then added a 5-quart jug of 5w30 and continued with my day.

It's actually fun having a car that I realize isn't going to be around too long and I can treat it like a beater.
