I really don't care for the term "SLO".... I'd rather say 1997 Ford Taurusaurus Rex Limited Northvoods FauxSHO.

I don't think the rear end has enough room for all those letters

Me likey. What are those stripes for, though? Do they represent something? Or just stripes. Either way, thumbs up.

Just stripes. They originally came to being as a way for pit workers to tell if it was their team's car coming through the pits in races of all the same model car. Plenty of cars have them nowadays... Sortof another take on racing stripes or pinstriping

Yeah I am seeing them more often. They have been on Vette's, too, for years.

Cool dude :D I may have to look into getting some for mine. In a silver or grey tone, of course. Care to inform me of where you aquired said stripey?

The first I've seen fender stripes on a Taurus cool.gif

Did you put them on both sides or just the driver's side?

I just bought bulk vinyl from the local sign shop. He gave me about a foot of it (15 inch wide roll) for $10

I cut about 3-4 inches off twice giving me (2) 3.5x15-inch strips which were just barely big enough to use. Idk if the fenders are taller on the gen 4. I'd definitely take some construction paper and mockup stripes first before you buy the vinyl so you know exactly how much you need.

They're just on the drivers side (how they are traditionally used) but some cars I've seen have them on both sides but I think that knowing the history of them that that would be silly.

Cool, thanks Sean. I will check with the shops in my area. I think there's a tad of difference in the fenders, but I can always trim off excess if need be.

Installed my wonderful new center console! I am already so glad I got it. $15 bucks at the junkyard!!! Grabbed a piece of wood trim from a Centennial too :D Not sure if I'll keep the wood grain or put the black one back on...

Installed a mesh grille on the SHO bumper!!! It's heavier duty than gutter guard, it was on a black SHO at the junkyard, already cut to size and painted!

and of course, you know something's up when Rex has his beater bumper on (which somehow incurred damage sitting in storage???)

Replaced the cabin air filer this weekend... can anybody guess which ones new and which ones old? How about how long it'd been in there???

598511_2959160878677_640282214_n.jpg

Also replaced the screws on my cowl, since the plastic ones Ford chose are crap and break when you try to do anything with the cowling.

Here's a little step-by-step:

Get 8 of these type plastic screws, you can get a pack at the dealer or online or parts store or something probably.

581248_2959162798725_608526777_n.jpg

The next pic shows each step of the process:

  • Take your 8 little plastic screws,
  • Take the screws out and throw it away.
  • Cut the posts off, now you have little washers (I suppose you could buy little plastic washers if you find some, but these are a perfect size, and I had a bunch of them.)
  • Get 8 screws, I used the ones that fit the reflectors on the bumpers, so grab a bunch at the JY or buy a pack of screws like these.
  • Get 8 cowl retainers off a late-90's Contour
  • Throw the 8 gold screws away that they have in them, they won't work for this.
  • Put the Contour clips in where the stock ones are on your Taurus, then use your new screws with washers!

Yeah, so I know it's a long and involved project with materials that are hard to collect, but I had them all and thought it looked really good when it was done, so if anybody wonders, this is what i did. I won't be offended if nobody else ever does this. LOL
