  1. Thanks for your reply, TaurusKev. I've decided to go with the cheaper local shop. Fingers crossed and I'll let you know how it goes.
  2. Hello, I have a 2001 Mercury Sable LS sedan with badly rusted rocker panels. There is also some rust on the floor pans and quarter panels. I'm thinking of trying to repair it -- I realize the cost may be more than the value of the car, but I like the other features and may want to customize it, so I'm still considering the idea. I got two very different quotes from body shops for what is, as far as I can tell, the same job: repair/refabricate the rocker panels, repair the rust on the floor pan, recoat the new areas with Woolwax, and repair and re-paint the quarter panels. One shop quoted $1600 while another quoted $6300 for this work. My mechanic says the guy who quoted $1600 can't possibly do a good job for that price. But I'm not clear on what the differences could be between the cheap and expensive shops. Is there something more I need to specify in asking for quotes to make sure I get a good job? Another factor is that the cheaper shop is local, and inspected the car in the shop, while the more expensive one is 3 hours away and quoted the prices based on texted pics. Any insights would be much appreciated. Thanks, Rizal
