Extensive Rust Repair...good Idea Or Not?
shrnk replied to shrnk's topic in Aesthetics, Interior, Wheels and Tires
Thanks everyone for your feedback!!! As suggested, I did more inquiry on the rockers. The body shop owner admitted that he had not inspected the driver side rocker, so the bill for the rust repair could go up substantially depending on what he found. I am reasonably sure both are rusted out, since the passenger side is totally gone. Would not have known to ask about that had I not received your invaluable feedback. Thanks again. You all saved me from what could have been a nightmare. Sure this guy would have really soaked me after repairs were underway and it was too late to turn back. -
I have a 2001 Ford Taurus SEL. I bought it new in 2001 after my husband died. Have kept the mechanical maintenance up and it runs well. However, the Kansas road snow and salt combined with no garage have taken their toll. There is extensive rust on both sides but frame is not rusted. The car already has a salvage title due to extensive hail dent damage. A local body shop will do the rust removal and put in a new panel on right side (that is the worst, running board completely fell off) and spot repair the damage on the left side, Total cost of $2400 dollars.
