  1. I wondering how folks here would take this.

Ford is taking an enormous gamble here, I think.  They kind of set themselves up for this to happen, in a way - the Focus, Fusion, Fiesta and Taurus (Especially) are long in the tooth.  The Fiesta is the basis of the Ecosport, Focus is the Escape, the Taurus is the Explorer.  I could see them being able to bring the Mondeo back as the Fusion if there is another enormous demand for a sedan.  But just like when they dropped the Panther platform people crapped their pants and yet the sun still rose and set.  The Accord is being outsold by the CR-V.  Same with the Camry and RAV-4.  Gotta go after low-hanging fruit.  Hopefully they aren't shooting themselves in the foot.

Here's my take on Ford and the main factor I ended up in a FCA automobile.  I had every intention of buying a new Ford of some type when I could no longer trust the longevity of my Fusion after it's malfunction and repair.  Ford simply wasn't interested in selling me a car.  FCA had been sending me approval letters for months to tempt me into their showroom.  I had thought about a Charger before, but was really looking to get back into a Taurus.  My local dealer had no interest in selling me a Taurus.  They didn't even keep them up front....they were way in the back lot.  Was told you don't want any of these....they aren't very well equipped.  Wouldn't even give me the keys to one to decide for myself.  My first FCA dealer visit went about the same as Ford, but they just wanted big $$ down and to buy my trade super cheap, but they at least tried somewhat.  I drove 20 miles to a bigger city(nearly 100k in population) and bought my new 18 Charger.  I was in and out in two hours(that includes the test drive).  I did put a measely 250.00 down and they gave me a fair offer on my Fusion(still had some negative equity).  I tried to give Ford my business and they weren't interested, AT ALL.  I'm still Loving my new Charger.  The heft of it reminds me of my 09 Sable and it rides like a land yacht which I also like and it has that look.  Took it on a trip to Little Rock and got 30.7 mpg cruising 70-80mph.  There is a market for cool big sedans and people like me want to buy them.  The Taurus could be cool if Ford wanted to invest in it.

A bad dealer doesn't make the manufacturer bad.  I was in and out with Lincoln with a grand total of about 40 minutes spent in the dealership.

Speaking of power....my little 1.5 ecoboost Fusion couldn't hold a candle to the Pentastar V6 in my Charger.  I know it isn't a V8, but that Pentastar puts out V8 power(maybe not hemi power), but well above Fords 4.6 V8 found in all the panther cars and the F150.  This car is what I missed about my Sable(that na 3.5 was no slouch either).  So far, it says I'm averaging 20 mpg which is only 2 mpg less than the Fusion in city driving.  It rolled over 500 miles yesterday.  Wish I could've afforded the V8 Charger(only for the smile factor when my foot gets heavy), but in no way regret the car I chose and I do not miss the Fusion at all.

A detuned, early 90's engine vs a modern day V6?  Of course the V6 is more powerful.

Lest us not forget Brian is perfect so obviously it is my fault.

And also lest us not forget Sean had them for several years. The last time I checked he was a bonafide resident of Michigan. Now everybody leave me alone I'm going to do a 0 to 60 in my 4 cylinder mustang and will obviously need at least a full week to hit 60. Somebody hand me my driving gloves

  4. Today I finished up fixing the random switches on my Town Car's door panels that didn't light up.  On my passenger door panel the power door lock switch didn't light up and on both doors the heated seat switch did not light up.  I bought new switches for a nice price on Tasca's website and finished that.  In doing so I found out why my driver's door panel makes so much noise when shutting the door - All the tabs are broken at the base of the door panel right by the side that is nearest to the passenger door.  What stinks is that the mounting point is broken off of the door panel so I think to fix this I'd need a whole new door panel.  New switches are worth it but a whole new door panel isn't and I can learn to live with the slight noise when you shut the door.

Additionally I had a Kenwood stereo put in the Town Car.  I was originally going to go with a touch screen but decided against due to cost and thinking a touch screen just looks out of place on a car like this.  This unit has several color options and I can match the stock green lighting exactly.  I usually keep it on a blue with the bottom lights going through a light show of all the different colors it can do.  I love having Sirius and bluetooth in the car now.  It's still not the same look as stock but I am happy to have the additional functionality.

Also was able to get some pics of my two cars together.  The Edge doesn't get driven much now that it isn't bad with weather here.  Town Car has a slight AC refrigerant leak that appears when it is hot out, otherwise the Town Car is good to go for a while.  The AC has been a long-standing issue - Nick and I seem to agree it's just either a hose or coupling that has a slight leak that is made worse by the heat.  When it is hot out the AC blows a little cold, but give it a little gas and it belches out frigid air.  Today it was nearly 90 according to my weather station (Pittsburgh weather, folks!  Tuesday we barely will reach 60) and it's the first day it felt warm in the car.

The Edge is a fun car to drive, I love the utility of a crossover and sheer power of that 2.7.  But the Town Car is still my favorite.

  5. And by the way a huge THANK YOU to Nick (aka Bull Geek aka "Red") for his hospitality.  I'm sorry we trashed the floor of your house and I may have left major mud pits when drifting into your lawn at speed during the Exploder's last drive.  I'm also a little sorry for taking your ice cream cone out of your hands and eating it myself at dinner Friday.

Your southern hospitality is second to none.
