  1. 96 Taurus has been donated to Breast Cancer Charity. It was a good ride while it lasted. 130,000 miles needs too much to keep going. Radiator, waterpump, timing cover, possible head gasket, oilpan gasket, struts, transmission slipping. Looking for replacement.

      Gettin another Taurus, right?

^^Right? LOL I wish I could have had a crack at that car. I bet it had a lot going for it despite the problems.

  2. The old bull wouldn't start this morning. I had it jumped earliier in the week and it seemed ok. I am now the proud owner of a brand new battery.

Congrats. I've found once you have to jump them from something that can't be explained or a source found...usually they go not long later. If it warms up they will generally last until the next really cold weather. Just put one on my 09 today too! I didn't wait for it to leave me stranded though because I've been there before and it's not a good feeling! Here's hoping the new one lasts for years to come!!!

The car sat for a few days in bitter cold ans snowstorm. I could tell for a while it didn't seem to start the car as it should. With the new one it it fires immediately, big differnce .

IN total agreement. Our Acura sucks ass.

Sam and I + a few others had a huge argument with one of my friends (Honda lover) on fb about why FoMoCo was the best, needless to say we won lol

My kid has a friend with an accord wagon. I was told how great Honda is. His Honda has had a head gasket blown and now is parked with a blown transmission, my 96 Ford keeps trucking all original. Probably just luck but if I had the money I would buy a new Ford to replace my Bull.

  4. I am ready for spring. Sunny 75 degrees all week long.

But still nice, I would add. Just expect to lose some stuff, like footwell lighting, the tweeters, etc. can be added back in.

    3. mh488

      mh488

I have the tweeters and premium audio in the turtle now. I would like the dual exhaust but not a deal breaker. The 99 looks like the duratec motor that would be a step up from my Vulcan.

Looks like the first owner kept it for 12 years, the second one dumped it after a couple thousand miles. Weird. I'd have it checked out by a independent mechanic just to be safe. Also, yes it does have the 'tec.

  5. I am tired of the Honda commercials featuring Michael Bolton...just saying.

Honda couldn't get any other has-been singers to do it.

  6. Have a small coolant leak somewhere, I can smell the sweet aroma when I park the car. Worked 138 hours in 2 weeks, finding the leak was sidelined. Probably just a loose clamp I knew I should never ever reuse the clamps.

Ive reused clamps IDK how many times with no problems...

Notice how this person doesn't say original trans though :P

    4. mh488

      mh488

I noticed that also. Unfortunately all auto transmissions are doomed to failure at some point, seals under high pressures and clutches as well as pumps only last soo long. But over 300k on original engine is darn impressive!

  7. Long week, 18 hrs ot in, 12 more to go, grand total of 70 hours of work this week. I'll be paying a mortgage payment with one pay and have some left. Then I'll sleep for 24 hrs. Lol

    1. Angrod

      Angrod

Ouch. Sounds like you're looking forward to the sleep more. :)

    2. mh488

      mh488

We have more work than we can handle right now, which is a blessing and a curse. Big wigs want 100% ontime but now till Christmas is looking like 7 days a week just to get about 80-95% ontime.

The arthritis in my back is telling me to work 40 hrs, but that's not possible right now. Coffee and ibuprofen are my friends right now. Lol

  8. Had trans service done on my 123k ax4s. Clean bill of health, no leaks, no codes, fluid slightly darker than new that went in. Car seems to shift better now as welll.

    1. DuraBull

      DuraBull

Good to go then! I need to do mine soon.

    2. The White Falcon

      The White Falcon

Yeah, mine shifted a lot better once I ran it for 1k miles or so. Got rid of nearly all the TC shudder when going into overdrive.

    3. mh488

      mh488

Days after service and trans is shifting nicely, albeit a tad delayed but its been that way since 58 k miles.

  9. I was bored and had some time so I watched a mechanic assemble an ax4s trans for a gen4 Bull. Not really a job for the amature mechanic.
    1. TaurusKev

      TaurusKev

      I could do that.

    2. mh488

      mh488

Ok I'll ship you the parts, my ax4s is showing signs of end of life. No slipping yet but slowing shifting, and I have to go to neutral at stop lights sometimes.

    3. mh488

      mh488

On a side note, I have been passing a black thunderbird sc around the same year as your third. Can't get a pic cause my phone camera bites. Looks like its in good shape.

  10. New coolant bottle on, heater core flushed. Cleaned aic, poked around and found out my no rust arizona car is rusting.

  11. My daughter is looking at getting a 2008 Honda civic. She got a new job and has to commute. Did a little research and found 2006 to 2009 civics are having engine block cracking failures. So much for reliability.

^+1. But the SI is out of her price range and she doesn't want a manual.

      TaurusKev

Why not get her to consider a Fusion? Or a Corolla?

  12. Coolant tank number 2 in 122k miles is distorted and showing hairline cracks. A new tank is on the way and will be put in asap.

    1. breeves002

      breeves002

That is sad. My OEM tank was not leaking at all when I replaced it at 130k. The low coolant sensor was busted, thats why I replaced it.

    2. mh488

      mh488

Mine is/ was the older design which were prone to failure. Not an issue for a TSOC member, we know what to keep an eye on with our cars.

  13. Left work at 10 pm, home at 11 pm, its now 12:25, I'll be up at 4:30 to leave by five for work again. Life is good. :-)

Know that feeling all to well... Nice to pay bills, but not nice to push ourselves to make bills paid.

  15. My kids Jeep Cherokee XJ is about to pass 200k miles. Needs a new tracbar and new front brakes. Still runs great.

IMO the latest design is better than the two previous by a mile. The last gen with all that wide slat chrome plastic grille wasn't good. The model prior with the stupid altezza style tailights and just ugly overall.

    3. TaurusKev

      TaurusKev

The previous gen was better looking to me.

    4. mh488

      mh488

Understood Kevin, I am looking or my next car and trying to keep it ford or mopar. I do like to buy American even if some of the parts are outsourced.

  16. So I asked my cable company a question. Comcast cable aka xfinity, why am I forced to pay for 50 hispanic channels as part of my package? I feel this is wrong as I do not speak Spanish and will never ever view any of these channels. I am actually being discriminated against because I live near the city of reading. Comcast failed to respond, I am considering dropping them.

  17. A bold new plan for Detroit . The model city rose from the floor. All of this for the failing motor city circa 1990. A time when the police drove the matte black Taurus sedan. Robocop2

  18. So I received my brand new cv axle assembly from Rockauto (shameless plug). Question is, am I the only one that gets excited when a new part arrives, kinda like it is a birthday present? This happens even though I know it will be a pita to put in the car.

  19. I am rebuilding my 96 a part at a time. We have the technology, a few hundred more to go and she will be brand new by 2016, 20 yrs after she rolled out of Ford.

I told you to leave the fuel pump alone, Brian. But nope. Had to fix that. Well now something had to break :P

  20. Taurus in for inspection, of course it needs work.lol. Two bad motor mounts, 3 new tires mount and balance, parts, labor 700+ out the door. Oh well it's beats a monthly car payment.

      Didn't get a fourth tire???????

    3. mh488

      mh488

Yes about a month and a half ago one got splits between tread and sidewall. The car was in the shop for the tierods and Ty tlked me into one new tire at that time.

    4. mh488

      mh488

Money is tight, normally I buy sets of four but they said I could get a blowout so I erred on the side of safety.
