Topics I've Started

  1. Picked Up Another Taurus Today

    28 April 2012 - 11:12 PM

So today was filled with mixed emotions. My Escort named Lupee has gone on to a new owner where it will be stripped and used as a hornet race car, after I spent so many hours fixing it up and bringing it back from a 10 year coma and saving it from the salvage bin.

Last picture of the car before it left... :(

But here is the new ride

It's an 89 base model SHO. It needs work but no more that the Escort did and parts are actually going to be easier to find for this car if you can believe that. This car was mechanic owned for the last couple years, lots of new parts including a stage 2 clutch. My plans are to fix it up some do maybe a few mods, not sure yet how crazy I think I want to go with it but I will start a build log for the car sooner than later. Anyway this was a straight up trade between the two cars, don't think I did so badly.
  2. Reminder, Check Suspension.

    13 March 2012 - 11:32 PM

So I swear the Sable is falling apart.... This morning on the way to class I noticed it acting strangely going 70mph very hard to explain but, at lunch time we jacked up the car and the passenger side inner tie rod is so loose I can't believe it was still one piece, this part had under 35k on it. I had to leave the car there, the auto department was nice enough to fix it even though there are no suspension or alignment classes going on right now. Due to that though I am not going to get a full inspection, just that inner tie rod replaced and toe adjusted. Moral of the story periodically check your suspension, even if they are newer parts, my car never showed any symptoms until this morning, I will take pics if they kept the part.
  3. Need Some Contour Help. No Power To Fuel Pump Fuse

    13 March 2012 - 12:17 AM

Got the car all back together it ran for a second on residual fuel from the injectors and thats it. Was trying to bleed the fuel line and realized the fuel pump wasnt running. Broke out the test light to find no power to the fuse, though it is grounded... so it would seem i have a short to ground someplace, now i would try to figure out the wiring diagrams i have but they are for a mondeo (i think, the ones for the windows and stuff are for a mondeo), not sure how similar the wiring is.

the car is a 97, the computer is from the 97, the harnesses are from the 98 and are from an auto, this car is MTX...

any insight or ideas would be great! thanks guys!
  4. Crankshaft Repair- Helicoil? Help!

    31 January 2012 - 12:19 AM

so some how tonight i managed to screw up the treads in the crankshaft on my contours new engine... pulled the pulley off and replaced the seal went to install the pulley again and it seemed like the bolt was going in fine, i was wrong, threads are screwed... i went to pull the bolt back out to put a dab of rtv on the keyway notch like the factory had it and noticed the bolt wouldnt go back in again easily. I am going to try to get a tap tomorrow and see if that will be enought but i am expecting the worse... anyone ever heli-coiled a crank pulley bolt hole? the bolt was damaged too but i took the bolt from the old engine to use. any insight would be great
  5. Oops, I Did It Again

    23 January 2012 - 01:14 AM

Went and bought another contour today haha. This may bring back some bad memories for Spridget haha

Its a 97 SE with a V6 and MTX (neither of which are in the car). This car has no rust (not counting surface rust) and I have yet to find a single dent on it. The paint is crazed pretty badly and the entire car needs a respray. As for options, it has sunroof, premium audio (aftemarket headunit it in though), abs, power driver seat, fog lights, spoiler, side skirts (these last 3 were part of the SE package), i believe it has keyless entry (found the plug i believe, to program a fob but not 100% sure its the correct one.)

My plans for this car were to use it as parts to make the green car rust free, but after what I have seen of it today it is getting fixed. This car died of a spun rod bearing at 157k miles, the guy I bought it from was going to fix it but found out it also needed a clutch, he didnt have money for one and here we are. He also replaced the front struts and springs and the alternator as well. I should also mention for those of you that read my thread about the Green Contour that this car is the car that I was looking at before I got the green car.

So I am going to order up a clutch for this car and a waterpump and thermostat for the green car and have two running driving V6 MTX contours.

A couple more pics from when I went to look at it the first time.
