Topics I've Started

  1. Continuous Mem Code 39

    20 May 2012 - 08:55 PM

So I installed a new speed sensor and a junkyard purge solenoid. Drove the car. Went around the corner, entered 4th gear. A few seconds later, boom got the torque converter to lock up. But unfortunately, that's the last time I saw/felt it lock up.

I drove a good 20-25 miles up and down I-77 and rechecked codes because I figured I would see after a drive cycle how it was.

Received continuous memory code 39. From the diagnostic tool book from Equus:
© 39 (Cars ONLY): Automatic overdrive not operating properly (transmission failure)

It goes through all 4 gears. I can feel them and see them. So back to the torque converter not locking up...

On a better note, cruise control works...
  2. How To: Replace Inner Tie Rod

    19 May 2012 - 12:44 PM

Found this great video on YouTube on how to replace inner tie rods. The vehicle they used was an early Gen 4 Taurus, so perfect video for our site:

  3. Nos Gen 3 Headlight

    17 May 2012 - 10:31 PM

    CHEAP!

NOS early Gen 3 lamp. Someone grab that thing. $62 to your door for a brand new Ford light is cheaper than some aftermarket one!
  4. 1993 Taurus 3.0L Egr Codes

    17 May 2012 - 09:41 PM

    Hi Guys.

MagicMike (tcca member) stopped by my place this evening so we could run the diagnostics on his 93 Vulcan 3.0 Taurus sedan using my Equus Ford OBD-I scanner. We unfortunately found a few codes.

Recent repairs: New IAC (and gasket) and New EGR (and gasket). Car runs a lot smoother. Also installed a DPFE from a clean 95 3.0L at the junkyard that had 70K genuine miles on it (maybe this is the culprit). The battery was disconnected/reconnected after this repair was done a couple of weeks ago.

    Codes:
    KOEO: 111 (passed!)

    Continuous Memory:
326 - (Cars ONLY): EGR sensor circuit voltage lower than expected

327 - EGR valve position circuit below minimum voltage
    or
    EVP/EPT circuit below minimum voltage

332 - Insufficient EGR flow detected

336 - EGR sensor circuit voltage higher than expected

337 - EGR sensor circuit above maximum voltage

    KOER:

332 - Insufficient EGR flow detected
    -----------
What should be the next step for diagnostics or repair? Seeing the EVP/EPT part reminded me of someone mentioning that this sensor controls the vacuum line to the EGR. Where the heck is it located though?

These codes all came up after we installed the EGR. Prior to this he only have 2 EGR codes.

Here's a pic of the EGR pipe:
