Sean T. is the new TSOC President!   03/27/16

As some of you may know, I started this forum back in 2010 in response to TCCA being sold to AutoGuide. I originally made this forum and called it the Taurus Club of Michigan (or something like that) purely as a joke, except a bunch of members from TCCA started joining. We eventually changed the name to the Taurus and Sable Owners Club, and we instantly started getting tons of signups from TCCA members in search of a new forum to join.  I only had my Taurus for about 6 months, and have moved on to the Mopar side. After 6 years, it seems weird for me to be president of TSOC. So as of today, I am 'stepping down' as President of the club and hereby hand the title of TSOC President to Sean T! I would say that most of you already know who he is, and I think he will do a great job as TSOC President. I will remain an admin of the forum and will continue to manage the server and forum software. Sean will be taking over all other responsibilities, including being in charge of the TSOC donations and money management. I will continue to pay for domain renewals, forum license renewals, and any other forum expenses, with Seans approval. Everybody please welcome Sean as the new President! How Can I Tell If My Taurus Came With Anti-Theft System?

17 posts in this topic

I was wondering if there's a way for me to tell if my 2003 ford Taurus originally came with a anti-theft system built from factory? The reason why I asked is because when my car is not turned on it get red light that says anti-theft,is there a remote or something I can buy for it? The dealer where I bought it from said it wasn't,but I think a lil different.

Your car uses a Key that looks big. Called SecuriLock. The key is what allows your car to start. If you use the wrong key, the Theft Lock flashes rapidly.

This theft feature doesn't protect from break-ins and such. Just the key.

Hope this helps.

The logo on the key doesn't make a difference. The chip inside the Ford and Mercury keys is the same. As long as it is programmed to your car's PCM it will work.

If I'm not mistaken, it's pretty much like this. If you have the "THEFT" light blinking in the instrument cluster when teh car is off, (like you said,) then you indeed have anti-theft. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

If the 'THEFT' light is blinking, on steady or turns on at any time whether the car is running or not then the vehicle is definitely equipped with PATS.

Go to www.ikeyless.com and fill out the info and order one. I ordered one for my Sable and it cost me $25. Instructions on how to program it are also included.

Define anti-theft. All 2000+ Tauruses have anti-theft in them with a chipped key.

If you mean the alarm system, only "SEL" trim line Tauruses had an alarm. (P56/59 vin). Roll down window, lock car with clicker/keypad. Reach hand inside and open door=alarm goes off.

ford doesn't exactly use different key blades. i needed one for my mercury and it does the taurus too. I saved ten bucks by buying a non mercury logo key. i'll just grab

a mercury logo off a set of keys in the junkyard.

I thought we settled this. Gen 4 have anti theft, permitter alarm, and key less entry, on all gen 4's with the exception of base (lx) and certain bastardized fleet models. Anti Theft is the starter imoblilizer built into the engine computer. It requires an electronically coded key to start the car. These must be programmed by the dealer. Up to 8 on 1998 and newer fords Lincoln & mercury's. Vehicle owners can program keys up to 8 with TWO working unique keys. Cloned keys from ace Hardware won't count. Once you program 8,you will need a trip to a dealer to program more. They will wipe the cache of programed keys. This costs between @65 - $152 depending on the stealer-ship. Keyless entry is standard on all models except BASE and bastardized fleets. Barrow a friend's fob from the ford Lincoln Mercury anything and try programing it. If it works, your done. You can have 4 programed. When programming fobs all must be programmed at once. With secessive programming older remotes are dropped unless programmed again. If you have remote keyless entry, you also have keypad entry. It's the 5 button key pad on the drivers door of SEL's (LS). There is a yellow sticker on the gem (accessory computer) behind the parking brake. Large black box with wires. Look for yellow sticker with code. Non SEL's are NOT pre wired. 5 wires need to be installed from gem to door panel to make it work. Perimeter alarm is "installed " in models just like above. However it's only ENABLED in SEL trims (sable LS). If you have discovered keyless entry, you GEM (accessory computer) is capable of permitter alarm. Just clip the middle black wire. (write up). However, only SEL's have the deactivate switch in the for lock. This disables the alarm we unlocked with the key. Sorry, not to be rude. Mods, please delete if people find this offensive.

I took my car to a dealer cause my car alarm randomly goes off, and they told me my car has an aftermarket alarm, yet my car does the same thing when I roll down the window, lock the car, reach inside and open the door and the alarm goes off. Does this mean I have an aftermarket or factory? (BTW, my car is an SEL trim)

Here is a pic of a little black rectangular "box" with a red light on top:

Your car from the factory has the alarm hooked up (it's an SEL). But that black box w/a red LED is an aftermarket alarm in addition to the factory system.

You have three options. You can leave it alone, remove the aftermarket alarm, or disable the factory perimeter alarm.

Also did you buy this from a Ford /Lincoln dealer ship? How many keys did you receive? Sent from my VS910 4G using Tapatalk

I wonder why the original owner had 2 alarms? Anyway, thanks!

I bought this car private party about 5 years ago and I received 2 keys.

If you're interested, here is the topic where this was discovered. A very clever moder 'outatyme ' figured it out.
