Hit the ditch last week and now the following has been acting up pretty badly this week, so figured I'd post about it.....

Yeah..... Rex has been "sick" for months now.... we have no idea what's wrong... we just keep replacing things. It's pretty annoying :///

Whatever it is though, is obviously effecting the gas mileage pretty violently.

Since October, there's been cases where Rex will not start. For whatever reason I have no idea... we replaced the starter and it seemed to go away for a month or so, but it's back... Got stuck at the bank today :)

Also around the time we replaced the starter, I started having weird electrical issues. While driving down the road, these all will cut in/out simultaneously....

-power steering
-seatbelt unlatched warning
-power windows and lighted switches
-windshield wipers

Oddly, the turn signals and everything sill work perfectly fine.... UN-fortunately I think it may be the transmission range sensor going bad again? (replaced it December 2010) but now the "power outages" have been getting worse.

If it's a day where it's cutting in/out, more than likely it will NOT work at all if Rex is in reverse. While in drive, it's totally random. You can hear all the relays clicking on and off. What weirds me out especially is that sometimes it will be for a split second, sometimes for a solid 20-minutes of driving.... more than once, the power outages have been in-sync with my turn signals or hazards....... on/off/on/off......

:(

Ordered a new transmission range sensor that will probably be put in Monday? Not sure yet......

have you looked into a leaky fuel pressure regulator or a leaky fuel injector at all for you poor fuel mileage and hard starting issues?

When it won't start, I believe it just, clicks. Or no click and just does nothing.

I think it's all the TRS. The TRS is also the neutral safety switch. If it's glitching up, it might not think it's in park or neutral causing a no-start.

Definitely start with the TRS. What brand of part are you using and where's it from?

Hook up a remote starter switch to see if your Neutral Safety is bad. Go fron the battery hot to the switch to the hot side of the starter. If its your NSS, the car will turn over ( with the key off). You can then mount a remote switch hooked up the same way to start the car.

@Nick, everything's always replaced with parts from the ford dealership, and usually installed there.

Didn't go in Monday, planning on later in the week... it's acting up incredibly bad again today, after driving just fine yesterday.

check the wiring the the GEM (Generic Electronic Module) This module is bolted to the back of the I/P fuse box (dashboard fuse box) the wiring is exposed to the drivers feet and can become "chaffed"

All the items you describe as cutting out at once are all controlled by the GEM.
(to test this hypothesis, start the car, let the idle smooth out and unplug the three wire connectors with the car running from the bottom of the fusebox (GEM) your drivers side window will roll down and the power locks will go crazy but ignore that and check all the things that are cutting out. if dead, the GEM or associated wiring / fuse may have alot to do with your problem.

it's the trans range sensor. for sure.

it was really bad today so at one point when it wasn't working, I left it in drive but shut the engine off. got out and unplugged/replugged the trs a few times, and each time everything would cut out/come back.

going to the dealer probnably thursday.
